Protect Black Women

I do not have the journalistic ability to write on this topic but this is a great article written by Alyssa Curtis of Blavity.com. Describing the timeline of this movement, Jennifer Mcleggan a single mother and registered nurse , was denied help from police for her terrifying reality of living in fear of her racist neighbors. With no help from those who “Protect and Serve” claiming that a crime must happen before they can help her. Meanwhile her neighbors are filling her yard with feces and walking around her property carrying large firearms.

First of all I believe this is absolutely disgusting, to prey on a vulnerable woman who is just trying to make the best for her and her young daughter. The ignorance of this inbred, illiterate family that is trying to force her out of “their” neighborhood makes me sick. Sadly it took until Jennifer was willing to go online to ask for help for someone to show up.

Anthony Herron Jr, who is described as a 30-year-old black man from Queens, in the article copied, reached out saying that he would be willing to watch Mcleggan’s house, making sure the neighbors would not harm her or her property. His first shift was finished at 6 am July, 15th. 5 days later we really see what an impact Herron made.

Now nightly, friends, fellow activists and most importantly a community is there to support Jennifer Mcleggan and her daughter. Creating a safer space that should have always been available. A community of belonging that at the end of the day is what we all want. I praise all the men, women and children that went out to support Jennifer McLeggan and her daughter.

I do not say Protect Black Women because I think my voice is important to hear. I do not write Protect Black Women because I think people care about what I write. I do not write this to speak for Black Women, especially not to speak over them. I do write this because I know there is an abundance of these same stories that do not make headlines. Women and children being harassed who are not being protected. I write in hopes that we can shine some light on the racism that is ripping through our country.

I hope that everyone who reads this will keep an eye out for wrongdoings, for as Martin Luther King said in his letter from Birmingham Jail.. ”  Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”

Keep on Keeping on,

NB
